Welcome to the New South

The realization that I was moving did not hit me when I loaded up my car. Not when I unloaded into my new room in the gigantic house of my new residence. Not when I got back from vacation (HAWAII!!) and left the airport as my family waited at the gate for their next flight. No it wasn't until I was sitting at a bar, watching a live 80s cover band with a thirty something balding guy trying to talk to me that I started looking around for my friends to send them a rescue signal (incidentally, try not to go to Cool River unless you are in the mood for some cougar watching. They are in abundance, wearing bandage dresses that are shorter than my workout shorts and Breaking. It. Down). With the realization there were no friends in sight I decided it was about that time that I made my way over to the bouncer and girl taking cover money and had to ask where the heck people go in the huge city!

Now we all know I'm not a small town girl. By any means. I spent most of my life in a suburb of Kansas City, a vibrant town with the elegant Plaza, exciting Power and Light, etc. Yeah, Dallas isn't like that. There is no one place to go out, there are millions! I know what you're thinking, that sounds awesome. Agreed, it completely does. Except for the part where its not like college and you don't have a schedule of which crowd is going to be at which bar each night. No Field House Wednesdays, Harpos, Q&T Thursdays, Piano Bar Fridays. I figured I would be able to figure out everywhere once I got a chance to look around, but dodging old women on my way to the door I realized I was in desperate need of advice. Also, a few Kappas around wouldn't hurt a thing.

Lucky for me Kappas are on the way, as soon as I join that alum thing and the tiny but great Jen O'Neil moves to town in a few days. I guess I can hold out.

Anyways the purpose of this blog is to make a final decision about where it is and where it is not awkward to eat by your onesie. So far what I have determined is: Chipotle-not awkward. We all knew that already though. Chick-fil-a- not officially awkward, especially at lunch, but also not ideal because of all the small children. The drive-through is not an option, they literally go for miles between the hours of 11 and 1. It's a marvelous thing to watch if you have a few minutes, but not if you are starving for some Chikin! Hibachi Steak House- super freaking awkward, but I got to go with Kristin Carringer's mom, so it was fun. Four Seasons Club House- too entertaining to be awkward. If only they knew I was in an entry level job, they wouldn't be falling all over themselves to bring me wine. My secret. Henk's Black Forest Deli and Bakery- not awkward, AMAZING. Yes you will be the only person under the age of 100, but they have Leberkas! And Sauerbraten. And SPAETZLE! Say it right, its schpetz-la. Ok I know I'm going all Deutscher on you, but seriously do not leave without buying a stack of Milka Noisette chocolate bars. They will change your world.

Oh and the best thing about living in Dallas and having to drive past 6-8 stripping clubs on the way to work is the new Fox show "The Good Guys." Because its set in Big D, and I get to see every place they bust a punk during my commute.
